HIV antibody testing can be done at Solano County run ATS (Alternative Test Site) clinics in Fairfield and Vallejo. These clinics are held weekly and the tests are anonymous and free. Confidential testing can also be requested. Solano County Health Department also offers HIV testing at a variety of community sites. Spanish speaking counselors are sometimes available at the Fairfield and Vallejo sites as well as the community sites.
Solano County's Fairfield and Vallejo ATS clinics, and the community site clinics, are now offering OraQuick® rapid HIV testing. Results the same day! OraQuick® is an FDA approved rapid point-of-care oral fluid test used to aid in the diagnosis of HIV-1 and 2 infection. For more information on rapid testing google "rapid HIV testing."
Anonymous testing means that you receive a number when your test is done--- no names are taken. With a confidential test (which is also the type of test you will probably receive in a doctor's office or hospital), your name is taken and there is a record you were tested for HIV. Some people prefer anonymous testing since some forms of insurance, life and disability insurance for instance, can deny you coverage solely on the basis you were tested for HIV.
Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) testing (for syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, etc.) is done at county clinics in Vallejo and Fairfield and there is a fee for service. STD testing is always done confidentially.
