HIV & STD Testing in Napa County

HIV antibody testing can be done at the Napa County run Alternative Test Site (ATS) clinic in the city of Napa. This clinic is held weekly and the tests are anonymous and free. Confidential testing can also be requested.

Rapid testing with OraQuick®, which gives a same day result, is now available at Napa County's ATS clinic. Planned Parenthood and Clinic Ole also offer rapid testing. OraQuick® is an FDA approved rapid point-of-care oral fluid test used to aid in the diagnosis of HIV-1 and 2 infection. For more information on rapid testing google "rapid HIV testing."

Anonymous testing means that you receive a number when your test is done --- no names are taken. With a confidential test (which is also the type of test you will probably receive in a doctor's office or hospital), your name is taken and there is a record you were tested for HIV. Some people prefer anonymous testing since some forms of insurance, life and disability insurance for instance, can deny you coverage solely on the basis you were tested for HIV.

Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) testing (for syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, etc.) is done at the county clinic in Napa and at Clinic Ole and Planned Parenthood and there is a fee for service. STD testing is always done confidentially.

Drop-in anonymous HIV antibody testing is on Thursdays - 1 pm to 3 pm. Results are available two weeks later on Thursdays - 3 pm to 4 pm.

STD testing by appointment only is on Mondays and Wednesdays - $5.00 for visit and fee varies if medication needed.
